A school minibus transporting 20 pupils ditched in a locality in Hunedoara on Monday morning. First information revealed that most of the children had suffered minor injuries and taken to the hospital. Authorities have activated the code red of intervention.
13 people were taken to the hospital. The son of MEP Iuliu Winkler was also in the minibus, being the one who called 112 and announced the school managers about the accident. His son is in the 10th grade at “Teglas Gabor” school in Deva.
Ten children were taken by ambulances to the hospitals in Deva and Hunedoara, while another three went by private vehicles.
The pupils told their parents that the minibus’ driver woud have fallen asleep, for the vehicle failed to take a curve and ditched.
Later on, the driver told police officer that he has fallen asleep due to fatigue.
Moreover, traffic police officers say that the driver had drinkedn alcohol, as the blood test revealed an alcohol concentration of 0.34.
