50 complaints have been filed so far in the case of orthopedics surgeon Gheorghe Burnei, accused in a corruption file for bribe taking and unauthorized experiments on children. 15 people have been hears so far.
On the other hand, the head of the Doctors’ College told Mediafax that the disciplinary investigation would be as quick as the public opinion is asking.
“From my experience, such an investigation could last more (…) But as this case became notorious, things will move as quickly as the public opinion is asking,” said Gheorghe Borcean, the president of the Doctors’ College.
The anti-corruption prosecutors conducted new searches on Wednesday in three offices from “Marie Curie” hospital, with evidence being seized from Burnei’s office, from the one of the head nurse and from a storehouse.
The Health Ministry’s Control Body will probe into the medical records of the children who were treated by doctor Burnei, who underwent various procedures in the hospital under his surveillance and who have prostheses fixed up by doctor Burnei.
The renowned orthopedist for children is accused of asking bribe from the parents, while operating some children for absent affections or for conducting unauthorized experiments. Burnei and his family would have received trips abroad from the company that used to deliver him unauthorized prostheses.
