The alarm sirens will sound alternatively, throughout the country, four days in a row, from Tuesday to Friday, between 10.00h to 15.00h, in the largest test for alarm sirens. The head of Emergency Situations Department, Raed Arafat, says the population should be aware what the alarm siren sounds like for high risk situations.
According to the PROCIV 2017 drill, the alarm sirens will sound on Tuesday in the counties of Braila, Calarasi, Constanta, Ialomita, Tulcea si Vrancea; on Wednesday the exercise will take place in Bucharest and in the counties of Arges, Bacau, Botosani, Brasov, Ilfov, Neamt, Prahova, Suceava, Vaslui, Buzau, Dambovita, Giurgiu and Iasi. On Thursday the sirens will be tested in Alba, Harghita, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Covasna, Maramures, Mures, Satu Mare, Salaj and Sibiu countries, whereas on Friday the exercise will take place in the counties of Arad, Caras-Severin, Dolj, Gorj, Hunedoara, Mehedinti, Olt, Teleorman, Timis and Valcea.
“This will be a test for the alarm sirens and to get the population informed about what each kind of sound means. Such exercises take place in other countries as well, Germany conducted a similar test recently,” Raed Arafat said. He added that a partnership with the media will ensure that instant messages are sent in emergency situations.
