Businessman Avraham Morgenstern (photo 1), gone missing despite being under judicial control and sentenced in absentia, in August, to eight years in prison, was detained on the night of Monday to Thursday in Buenos Aires, the Romanian Police have announced.
Bucharest Court of Appeal sentenced Avraham Morgenstern, administrator of Shapir Structures SRL, for charges of tax evasion, to eight years imprisonment. The businessman has gone missing on May 8, 2017 while under judicial control.
Morgenstern is accused of bribe giving EUR 175,000 to the former Constanta mayor Radu Mazare (photo 2), money the former mayor allegedly has invested in the tourist complex in Madagascar, according to Rise Project.
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), during 2009-2014, Morgenstern, as manager of Shapir Structures SRL, did not record the revenues obtained from three contracts concluded with RAEDPP Constanta and Confort Urban SRL Constanta and did not register tax receipts relating to revenues in the execution of these contracts.
