Amid debate with the Presidency on the Interior Ministry’s intelligence unit, DGPI, the chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, said on Friday that PSD doesn’t need any secret service for it has them all. Dragnea stated that PSD is “a beloved party with a very accessed headquarters”.
“There are bigger services and far more important than DGPI. Then, why would have DGPI needed the CSAT’s consent?” the SocDem chairman argued.
He further said that the ruling party needs no secret service for “it has them all”.
“There is no secret service in Romania that would have had or have a tight cooperation with PSD. It is a beloved party and with a very open and accesses HQ. That’s why we feel we are very protected. We don’t need any secret service, we have them all,” Dragnea pointed out.
His statements come after President Klaus Iohannis stated on Thursday that DGPI is a militarized institution which cannot function without the CSAT’s consent. The head of state revealed that ultimately he would challenge the law on DGPI head appointment to the Constitutional Court.
On the other hand, PSD chairman Dragnea seemed to have changed his mind over the government reshuffle, stating on Friday that it’s possible that no government reshuffle takes place after all, adding that he will have no hesitation to make any changes if “another rhythm is needed” in other areas.
