Former presidents, ex and incumbent ministers and chief prosecutors to be heard by the SIPA parliamentary committee

The parliamentary inquiry committee set up to probe into the activity of Justice ministry’s ex-secret service, SIPA, has a long list of current and former officials to be called for hearings on the controversial issue of SIPA archive.

The inquiry committee has first invited Justice Minister Tudorel Toader for hearings on October 19, at 10 a.m. and former ministers of Justice Monica Macovei, Tudor Chiuariu, Catalin Predoiu or Titus Corlatean will be called for the next hearings.

The committee chairman Serban Nicolae argued that hearings should start with JusMin Toader for he is the most capable person to give explanations on this matter now, considering his position. “He is the most competent person to tell us what is the current situation with the SIPA archive, if there are any special departments related to this archive, for it is not operational at the moment,” the chairman said, while proposing the committee members should also pay a visit to the SIPA archive HQs.

The SIPA committee will also hear former presidents Traian Basescu, Ion Iliescu and Emil Constantinescu, former and incumbent intelligence chiefs, Interior ministers, as well as the prosecutors generals of the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Supreme Court and their deputies during 2004-2017, including Ilie Botos, Laura Codruta Kovesi, Tiberiu Nitu or Augustin Lazar.

Serban Nicolae ruled out the hypothesis the invited persons should not come for hearings.
