Romanian librarian Laszlo Kiss embarked on a 21-day tour on bike to cross 3,000 kilometers from the Black Sea to the North Sea in an attempt of raising awareness over Romanian libraries’ importance. He left Sfântu Gheorghe on Sunday and is expected to arrive in Sibiu on Friday, where he will make a stop at “Lucian Blaga” University Library in Sibiu, as turnulsfatului.ro informs.
The librarian’s novel move is part of the campaign entitled “Reading throughout Europe- School libraries from the Black Sea to the North Sea” initiated to sensitize the public opinion over the libraries’ importance and also to set up again “I.C. Petrescu” National Pedagogic Library.
During 21 days, June 7 to July 5, the librarian will be pedaling more than 3,000 km, from Constanta up to Amsterdam, and will be visiting the public, school and university libraries in 7 EU countries.
The cyclist librarian also aims this campaign will promote the Congress of the School Libraries International Association, due in Maastricht during June 28-August 3.
