Mamaia Black Sea resort in Constant will host the Triathlon Challenge Mamaia during September 4-6, the biggest event of this kind in the Eastern Europe and in the Balkan region.
The European Premium Triathlon Cup will take place within the same event, under the license of the International Triathlon Union, but also the Romanian Triathlon Series Grand Final, one of the three premium events held in Europe on an annual basis. Organizers decided to hold two of these premium events in Mamaia, Romania and in Holten, the Netherlands.
The most renowned triathletes in Europe but also Romanian important sportsmen will come to race in Mamaia for the 400 points, the premium cup, which will count for the European ranking.
Money prizes are higher than last year, from EUR 12,500 for a normal cup to EUR 25,000 for an olympic test. Prizes for both amateurs and olympics mount to EUR 31,000, being the highest awarding fund in Eastern Europe.
The competition comprises five tests: supersprint (400m swimming+10km cycling+2.5km running), sprint (750m swimming+20km cycling+5km running), olympics (1,500m swimming+40km cycling+10km running), sprint relay race (750m swimming+20km cycling+5km runing) and olympic relay race (1,500m swimming+40km cycling+10km running).
Children aged 9 to 12 can compete for Aquatlon- 200m swimming, 1.25km running or for Duatlon- 1.25km running, 5km cycling and 1.25km running. There is also the Beach Run 4-km cross for the supporters (family, friends, colleagues).
Among the participants, 30 percent are attending the first triathlon of their life, 70 percent are aged 20 to 50, while all competitors are usually aged 9 to 68.
