NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Romania for allotting 2 percent of the GDP on defence spending this year, saying it’s an example to follow for other NATO member states.
“I congratulate Romania on its efforts to increase defence spending to 2% of GDP this year. An example for other Allies to follow,” Jens Stoltenberg tweeted on Thursday night.
In a statement by the NATO press service, the NATO Secretary General said that in a world with ongoing complex threats, higher budgets on defence are needed, as well sharing duties as justly as possible.
“Romania is providing both- being an example for the other Allies to follow,” Stoltenberg said.
He added that Romania is also proving leadership by hosting a multinational brigade, strengthening the NATO’s presence on the southeastern flank of the Alliance.
In the end, the NATO Secretary General warmly hailed Romania’s strong commitment to NATO, both by troops and budget.
