“On the occasion of your victory in the presidential elections in the French Republic, I would like to convey to you, in my name and on behalf of the Romanian people, the warmest congratulations, along with wishes for success in the exercise of the high responsibilities that have been entrusted to you. The French people have made a firm and clear statement in favour of continuing France’s involvement in supporting the European project. Romania wants to contribute, together with France and other partner states, to the re-launching and deepening of this essential project so that we can provide more security and prosperity to our citizens, in a context marked by many challenges and uncertainties,” Klaus Iohannis wrote in the message.
The President added that “I take advantage of this moment to assure you of my full availability to work together with you to strengthen the privileged relations between Romania and France, on the basis of the existing strategic partnership between our countries. I trust the cultural season 2018-2019 will represent an excellent occasion to highlight the richness and diversity of our relationship,” the President said.
In his turn, Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu conveyed congratulations to the new French President. “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron for the historic victory in the French presidential elections! Today, the French citizens discourage anti-Europeanism and extremism. This victory is good news for Europe and for Romania!” Sorin Grindeanu wrote on his Facebook page.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry has also conveyed congratulations. “Congratulations to France and to the French people for electing Emmanuel Macron for a European future. Vive la France, vive l’Europe!” the message reads.
