Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 2nd WTA, defeated Czech Barbora Strycova 6-1, 6-0 on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals of the USD 2,434,389 WTA Rogers Cup tournament in Toronto.
Halep, 25, the defending champion, needed 59 minutes to win the match against Strycova, 31, 26th WTA.
Halep leads Strycova 4-1 in their head-to-head count, as she had already defeated her this year in Stuttgart 6-2 6-3.
On Wednesday Halep to the third round after defeating Magdalena Rybarikova 6-3, 6-4.
Halep has won USD 58,185 and 190 WTA points, and in the quarter-finals she will face Caroline Garcia, 23, 21st WTA, who defeated Catherine Bellis (US) 6-4, 6-2 in the third round.
In the 2016 Rogers Cup women’s singles final, hosted by Montreal, Halep defeated American Madison Keys 7-6 (2), 6-3, and in the 2015 edition again in Toronto, she retired in the final versus Belinda Bencic at 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 3-0 for the Swiss. In the 2013 edition, Romanian Sorana Cirstea was defeated in the final by Serena Williams 6-2, 6-0.
