Three more Romanians evacuated from St. Martin island due to Hurricane Irma

Other three Romanian citizens have been evacuated on September 11 from Saint Martin island, seriously affected by Hurricane Irma. The total number of Romanians evacuated from the affected areas mounted to seven, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed on Tuesday.

The three Romanian who have just been evacuated have reached Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The evacuation action, coordinated by the ministry’s crisis cell, was possible through Romania’s Embassy in Bogota, with the help of Romania’s Honorary Consulate in Santo Domingo. At present, the Romanian citizens are safe in the Dominican Republic, whereof they will be able to continue their journey. The diplomatic missions and consulates from the transit countries will provide assistance during the trip to the destination,” says the ministry’s press release.

The ministry’s crisis cell, through Romania’s embassies in Paris, The Hague and London, is permanently keeping in touch with the authorities of the three states which have under jurisdiction the main island territories affected by the hurricane (Saint Martin island and the British Virgin Islands).

At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of foreign affairs is coordinating with other states through Romania’s embassies in Ankara, Warsaw and Lisbon to help their citizens leave the affected territories.
