The PSD-ALDE coalition signed on Wednesday a parliamentary cooperation agreement with the UDMR, the leaders of the three parties participating to the ceremony.
“We are very interested in a stable parliamentary majority to ensure political and economic stability,” Social-democrat leader Liviu Dragnea said after the signing, hotnews.ro reports.
UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor (photo) said that the union would support the PSD-ALDE proposal for prime minister, but added that “we are not in the ruling coalition”.
According to the protocol, UDMR will support the government’s legislative proposals and the PSD-ALDE draft bills, whereas the UDMR drafted bills will be jointly supported if agreed upon.
The protocol underscores the importance of decentralization, but also the need to ensure compliance with legal regulations and legal obligations arising from international treaties in regard to minorities’ use of the mother tongue.
