5.8 degrees quake jolts eastern Romania, Bucharest

An earthquake with magnitude of 5.8 degrees on Richter scale occurred Sunday morning in Vrancea region, at 3.38h Sunday morning, the National Institute for Research-Development on Earth Physics (INFP) informs.

The quake took place in Buzau County, at a depth of 150 km.

The earthquake occurred near the cities of Nehoiu (17 km), Covasna (33 km), Intorsura Buzaului (37 km), Târgu Secuiesc (48 km) and Vălenii de Munte (53 km).

The quake was strongly felt in Bucharest as well. Within half an hour after the earthquake, the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance service registered 15 calls to the emergency number 112 for faintness and panic attacks.

Before this one, the largest quake registered this year was on April 25, of 4.6 degrees on Richter scale.
