This Sunday night from the 5,300 capacity Sala Polivalenta in Bucharest and live on TVR, Romania and Europe will find out who will represent the country at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon in May.
It all started months ago with 72 songs submitted for Romania’s National selection and they were reduced to 60 to take part in the live semi final shows.
We have all watched Five exciting Semi finals from Five amazing venues across Romania.
We visited the cities of Focşani, Timişoara, Craiova, Turda and Sighişoara under the slogan of “Eurovision Unifies Romania” and we now know the 15 songs that will take part in this Sunday’s National selection Grand Final to see who will represent Romania in the Portuguese capital.
60 songs were spread out into Five Semi finals and the top 3 from each Semi Final qualified to the final.
The people who had a big say in which songs would reach the National final, Marian Ionescu, Ilinca Băncilă, Nicu Patoi, Liliana Ştefan and Viorel Gavrilă, were the members of the jury of the National Selection 2018. It was they who decided which 15 songs would make it to the Final but their job is now complete because it will be the Romanian public who will decide which song will represent them in May.
One of the jury members was Ilinca, no stranger to Eurovision who together with Alex Florea came 7th last year in Kiev with the song Yodel it. Alex did try to make a comeback this year but was eliminated from Semi Final 1.
Diana Dumitrescu and Cezar Ouatu will continue to be our hosts on Sunday night having hosted the Five Semi Finals. Diana is a well known actress and we all remember Cezar who represented Romania at the 2013 Eurovision in Malmo with his operatic song “Its my life”.
So, the 15 artists and songs bidding for the golden ticket to Lisbon are:
Eduard Santha („Mesom Romales”)
Alexia & Matei („Walking On Water”).
Jukebox feat Bella Santiago („Auzi Cum bate”)
Rafael & Andy („We Are one”)
Ermino Sinni & Titziana Camelin („All The Love Away”)
Vyros („La La La”),
Feli („Bună De Iubit”),
Tiri („Deşert De Sentimente”),
Claudia Andas („The One”)
Dora Gaitanovici („Fără Tine”)
Teodora Dinu („Fly”)
The HUMANS („Goodbye”)
The show is broadcasted live on TVR 1, TVR HD, TVRi, TVR Moldova and on TVR+, on Sunday, February 25th starting from 21.00 hrs.
So, who will follow in the footsteps of Ilinca and Alex and represent Romania at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon?
