Airbus Helicopters, the largest European producer of helicopters and one of the largest in the world, will sell the products made in the new factory in Ghimbav to customers around the world as of the end of next year, early 2018 at the latest.
Thus, Airbus has started already testing the Romanian market to find suppliers in the country to produce various equipment and components for H215 Puma helicopters, local Buna ziua, Brasov! informs.
French President Francois Hollande and PM Dacian Ciolos have inaugurated on September 13 the helicopter plant in Ghimbav, Brasov County (central Romania), an important investment of over EUR 50 million for the aeronautic industry in Romania and in France.
“We believe in the ability of the suppliers in Romania to become part of this project. It’s a benefit for us and for Romania as well. It’s logical and reasonable that when we invest in a new project, in a specific location, to seek for local suppliers, but to be competitive and to provide us quality equipment. I think the local market in Romania is ready, but still needs to do some improvements to meet our needs,” Serge Durand, manager of Airbus Helicopters in Romania explained.
To find collaborators, Airbus together with the Chamber of Commerce Romanian-French (CCIFER) and the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) organized recently a conference about “How to work with Airbus Helicopters”, an event attended by 70 existing and potential suppliers of the new factory.
The concern of Airbus and the two chambers is to create a cluster of local suppliers for Airbus Helicopters factory in Ghimbav and to support the Romanian suppliers to grow in skills, with the ultimate goal to restore Romania on the world aeronautics map.
The famous company also signed an agreement with the “Transilvania” Technical College to form young people who will become technicians in aeronautics.
French Airbus Helicopters offered the school, among others, the fuselage of a helicopter, tools, avionic systems, gearboxes, mechanical parts, cruise control, hydraulic control systems.
Currently, Airbus Helicopters Romania has 165 employees and Airbus Helicopters Industries Romania has 35 employees, the two companies totaling 200 employed people. When the plant will produce at full capacity, other 350 persons will be joining the existing employees of Airbus Helicopters Romania.
