More than 7,000 people protested Thursday evening in Victoriei Square in Bucharest against the amendments made by PSD-ALDE ruling coalition to the Criminal Codes and laws of justice. The rally took place in the context of the sentence issued by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) in Liviu Dragnea’s file, the PSD leader being sentenced to 3 years and 6 month imprisonment in the first court.
The protesters chanted: ‘Happy anniversary in jail’, ‘Many years in jail’, ‘PSD – red plague’, ‘We resist, we won’t give up’, ‘Early elections’ and ‘Resignation!’.
The crowd booed when the names of Dragnea, Tariceanu, Dancila, Firea and Iordache were mentioned.
The music repertoire included ‘Hooligan’s anthem’, ‘Ode of joy’ (EU’s anthem), ‘We will rock you’ and ‘The union dance’.
The protest was peaceful, as compared to the previous one on Wednesday, when gendarmes arrested six people. Several protesters handed flowers to the gendarmes, most of them took them.
Protests were staged also on other cities in Romania. In Cluj, the protesters gathered downtown. In Brasov, Iasi, Timisoara, hundreds chanted in support of justice and against the amendments to the criminal codes. The Government resignation was requested.
