A third Romanian city to benefit of Uber service by year-end

U.S Uber company, providing ridesharing services through app on smartphones, plans to expand its presence in Romania. Thus, Timisoara, Brasov or Iasi could be the third Romanian city where the Uber app is going to be available by the end of this year, company’s officials announced at ZF Live.

Also, Uber will attack this year the corporate segment in Romania by introducing a dedicated service to the companies. Thus, the companies will be able to use Uber services for the employees’ transport. Currently, Uber users can only separate their rides made for business purposes by those made for personal reasons via the ‘business profile’.

The U.S company entered the local market in February 2015 and in August this year launched the service in Cluj-Napoca. At one year of Uber in Romania, the controversial smartphone app marked 110,000 users, according to Alexandra Corolea, Uber’s Communications Associate for the Balkans region.

At the moment, Uber Romania has 10 employees, Alexandra Corolea being one of the three partners who founded the team locally.

60 percent of those who choose Uber have under 30 years and 9 out of 10 have higher education. Since Uber became available in Bucharest, 25 percent of respondents of a survey conducted by the company say they use less their own car, while 40 percent say that they choose Uber when they know the destination parking spaces are limited.

According to Uber official, the costs of a ‘ridesharing’ service user would be 30 percent lower in a year than if he would use his own car for which he would pay fuel taxes, parking and maintenance charges.
