There will be a restructuring process of Tarom, Romania’s flag carrier next spring, Ionut Mosteanu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport (MT), announced after the airline management hearing in the Senate’s Transportation Committee, mediafax.ro informs.
“The consultancy contract will soon be signed and we will have a report of an international consultant somewhere next spring, which will explore several routes for positioning the company and, depending on the decision that will be taken, we will know more about the fleet structure. Before we invest Romanians’ money into a new fleet, we must restructure the company, so the next step after the consultant’s report will be a restructuring of the company, which even if it is painful, it should be necessarily assumed by the next government, the next Parliament,” Mosteanu stated.
In his turn, Daniel Butunoi the president of Senate’s Transportation Committee said that Tarom operates in safe traffic conditions and that the air carrier does not have more incidents or delays than reported by others.
This statement comes in the context in which Tarom recorded on Monday a delay of over four hours on Bucharest – Sofia route.
On the other hand, Dan Plavati, Interim Director of Tarom, added: “Everything is absolutely normal. All our colleagues from the ground operations, those who take care for passengers boarding communicate always to passengers any kind of delays.”
Tarom management and representatives of the Ministry of Transport were summoned Monday to the Senate’s Transportation Committee to explain the reasons that led to the recent incidents about the safety of Romanian airline aircrafts.
Currently, Tarom operates 22 aircrafts, after one of the Airbus A310s, purchased in 1992, went out of use.
