300 largest companies in Romania. Which ones have turnover exceeding RON 1bn?

The first 300 companies in Romania had a turnover of RON 440 billion (EUR 100 billion) last year, up by 4% as compared to 2014. The result represents a third of the total turnover of local firms (RON 1,222 billion in 2015), whereas the large companies growth is in line with the growth in total business.

Automobile Dacia was in 2015, for the third consecutive time, the largest company in Romania by turnover, ahead of OMV Petrom SA. Dacia had businesses of RON 19.1 billion, up by 2% against 2014, on the second position ranks OMV Petrom Marketing and the third is OMV Petrom SA. The three companies are the only ones in the local economy in 2015 which managed to pass over RON 10 billion in turnover, shows an analysis conducted by Ziarul Financiar based on data from the Trade Registry.

Preliminary data on 2015 (there are still companies without the balance sheet on mfinante.ro website) shows that in the Romanian economy there are 116 companies that have gone over RON 1 billion turnover last year.

Dedeman Bacau is the largest entrepreneurial firm, and in the overall standings ranks seventeenth. The top 100, nine companies are controlled by local entrepreneurs, joined by Banca Transilvania. Entrepreneurial companies in the top 100 are making profit, excluding RCS&RDS, which reported a loss of RON 22 million last year.

In the top 100 there are 16 multinational companies registering losses and also the ‘champions’ of the state in this regard. The turnover of the companies in Romania went up by almost 5% last year to RON 1,222 billion, the best ever result achieved by the companies in Romania, according to data from the Trade Registry.

By exchange rate against the EUR, at the exchange rate of RON/EUR 3.68 in 2008, that year remains a reference year when business came close to EUR 300 billion.
