AHK’s Anastasiu: Unsustainable wage growth in the budget system, immediate effects in the private environment

Probably, the unsustainable wage increase in the budget has immediate repercussions on the private environment, according to Dragos Anastasiu, president of German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania).

”We understand that we have to pay well, but on the other hand we can not decouple it from productivity,” Anastasiu stated at the first 2018 monthly meeting of Chamber members.

He added that there is a problem of bureaucracy that suffocates the business environment day by day, which comes in the package with the lack of digitalization.

”We have a problem regarding Romania’s image, much worse than in reality and that prevents us from having more exports, more foreign investments and more tourism,” AHK Romania official said.

AHK’s Anastasiu pointed out that Romania had a too much consumer-based economic growth in 2017, and the lack of predictability and transparency and dialogue among decision-makers are concerns for business environment.

According to him, the growth continues in 2018, but there are still worries. Besides infrastructure, education and health, there are problems related to the lack of workforce.

Attending the event, Ionut Dumitru, Chief Economist of Raiffeisen Bank Romania, stated the fiscal revolution is a madness that nobody has understood it, not even today. ”We are all dismayed, but no one in the government can explain why this (fiscal revolution – ed. note) has been done,” banking analyst said, adding: ” The fiscal revolution has severely damaged the consumer sentiment because they worry about their financial level.”

At the same time, he noted that the level of economic growth in Romania is at the pre-crisis level, supported mostly by consumption.
