AxFina Romania starts managing a portfolio with a nominal value of about 1 billion Euro

AxFina Romania, part of AxFina Holding, will start managing the portfolio bought from the Swedish group Intrum from 1st of February 2024. The portfolio taken over is a consumer finance (loans for consumer goods) and telephony portfolio with a total nominal value of more than EUR 1 billion.

This transaction marks the exit of Intrum from the Romanian market, Intrum Debt Finance AG being part of the Intrum Group, a group active in credit management services. The initial announcement was made in July, when Intrum made public that its entire portfolio of operations in Romania had been bought by DDM Group AG, an investment platform specializing in non-performing assets (NPL). DDM Holding AG, a multinational investor, also announced the acquisition of an NPL portfolio of consumer debt in Romania. In December 2023, the Competition Council cleared the transaction whereby DDM acquires the debt portfolio of Intrum Debt Finance AG. “Following its analysis, the Competition Council found that the transaction does not raise significant impediments to effective competition in the Romanian market or in a substantial part of it and that there are no serious doubts as to its compatibility with a normal competitive environment”, the Competition Council announced in a press release.

We are excited to announce the takeover of servicing of the portfolio recently acquired by DDM Holding AG from Intrum AB. AxFina supported DDM throughout the whole lifecycle of the portfolio acquisition, beginning with the valuation and ending with the transaction. In 2023, AxFina achieved remarkable success by securing numerous mandates, resulting in tripling its business in the dynamic receivables management market in Romania. Over the past two years, our entry into the Romanian market has established AxFina as the top partner in the realms of loan. In the future, we will continue to grow our business in Romania, providing digital- and customer-first debt collection services,” said Johannes Wolfslehner, the CEO of AxFina.

“The integration of Intrum with the current portfolios being managed by AxFina Holding is an important step for AxFina Romania. We are talking about a consumer finance portfolio, which we will manage applying international standards. In fact, AxFina Romania’s way of operating is built on the fundamentals of a global market, fair operational processes, customer-oriented approach and with a policy that provides a collection process through methods that are advantageous for those who have debts“, said Miruna Paunescu, AxFina Romania Country Manager.

“I am very excited about our position in the Romanian market. We are in the constant look out for new opportunities to develop our business and to serve Romanian customers better. Romania has a huge potential and we hope to grow with the market to be there amongst the top organizations serving the customers well”, said Vasanth Raj, Chief Operating Officer AxFina Holding.
