Băneasa Airport will be operational as of May next year, the authorities are promising.
The rehabilitation contract of the Baneasa Airport, worth RON 55.5 million has been signed on Monday. The traffic capacity will increase up to 350 passengers per hour so that Baneasa can take over part of the intense traffic from Otopeni Airport.
The rehabilitation, worth RON 55.524 million, will be done by a consortium association Bog’Art SRL and UTI S.A.
“Today we signed the contract of rehabilitation of three buildings of the Baneasa Airport. Body buildings A, B and Rotoda will be modernised, by the start of the European Football Championship. It is a requirement Romania has to meet, along with the rehabilitation of the railway, so that the matches of the championship can be played in Bucharest,” Transport minister Razvan Cuc said.
The minister also promised the two airports, Otopeni and Baneasa, will be linked through the Metro Line 6.
Baneasa Airport has not operated flights in the past 7 years, with authorities vowing that the it will serve the air traffic for EURO 2020.
