BNR governor Isarescu refuses to go for hearings in Parliament

The governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, has declined the invitation made by ALDE senator Daniel Zamfir to go for hearings in the Senate’s economic committee on Tuesday, amid attacks launched by PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea against the central bank governor.

Isarescu has sent a letter to Zamfir explaining his refusal to go to hearings, saying that “BNR appreciated the concerns whose target is a proper functioning of the Romanian economy generally speaking and of the financial system, in particular”.

“However, we consider that attending debates born out of fake news, which have nothing to do with the reality, out of the personal interpretations of some analysts or journalists can cast a shadow on the main correct purpose to clear up some situations in the society”, Mugur Isarescu says in the letter.
