Sales of motor vehicles registered in Romania, in the first five months of the year, registered a jump of 6.9% to a volume of 46,222 units, while domestic production fell by 6.9% as compared to the same period in 2015, according to data released on Tuesday by the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).
By brands, the top in the first five months of 2016 is led by Dacia, with 9,593 units (26.7% market share, on a volume decreasing by 27.8% against 2015), followed by Volkswagen with 3,863 units (10.8% market share, sales increasing by 14.4% as compared to 2015), Skoda – with 3,788 units (10.6% of total market, sales up by 15.8%), Renault – 2,581 units (7.2% market share, higher sales by 17.3%), Ford – 2,368 units (6.6% of total market, sales up by 4.6%) and Opel – 1,522 units (4.2% of the total market, higher sales by 31.4%).
By models, with 3,497 units sold in the domestic market, Dacia Logan is the best-selling model in the first five months of 2016, followed by Dacia Sandero with 2,206 units, Dacia Duster, with 1,976 units, Skoda Octavia – 1,678 units and Renault Clio, with 1,143 units.
Depending on the type of fuel, diesel cars continue to dominate the market with a share of 56.1%, the percentage was relatively similar to last year after five months (56.4%).
APIA states that in Europe after five months of 2016 an overall increase of car sales (9.9%) is noticed.
