Certiport Names Two Students from Romania Microsoft Word and Excel World Champions

Romania has two world champions and one third place winner as students top more than 1.5 million entries from 850,000 competitors.

The winners of the 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship have been announced by Certiport, the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners.  Adrian Boier has been named the 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist World Champion in Microsoft Word 2016 and Mihaela Florea was named the World Champion in Microsoft Excel 2016.  In addition, proving that Romania was very well prepared for the competition, Adrian Muntean came in third place for Microsoft PowerPoint 2016.

In its 18th year, the competition attracted more than 850,000 test-takers from 119 countries.  Students, ages 13 to 22, competed with peers to prove their superior skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, culminating in the most popular technology skills competition on Microsoft Office—and the only one endorsed by Microsoft since its inception in 2002.

To enter the competition, students took a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office technology.  Regional competitions were held worldwide and 155 student finalists from 50 countries qualified to compete in the final round of competition in New York, New York, USA from July 28 – 31.
