Chinese tech giant takes over UPC Romania’s network operation management

UPC Romania, member of Liberty Global, has outsourcing its technical operations to Huawei Romania after signing a partnership, a press release informs.

The deal provides the transfer during this year to the local subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant, of the teams which currently ensure the operations in the field from the departments of network operations and UPC Romania customer operations.

Huawei Romania was selected following a tender organized by UPC Romania, a process involving several major players in the local telecommunications market, the statement said, not specifying the value and contract period or the number of employees who will be transferred.

Similar agreements were signed on the local market in 2012 when Huawei Romania took over for five years the network operation management for Vodafone Romania and in 2014 Ericsson Romania took over for seven years the network operation of former Romtelecom and ex-Cosmote Romania, currently Telecom Romania Communications and Telekom Mobile Romania Communications.

Also in 2015, Orange Romania transferred some of activities and part of the technical staff to the local branch of the Swedish group Ericsson, the operation being part of the Sirius ONE project.

Huawei Romania’s turnover grew in 2014 by 24.2 percent to RON 698.6 million, while net profit fell by 25.8 percent to RON 71.2 million.
