Romania’s electricity consumption – close to peak levels, significant imports. High prices on the spot market

Romania has imported significant quantities of energy Tuesday morning, given a very high national consumption, of over 9,400 MW, Transelectrica informs.

At 10.15h, the imports reached 1,413 MW with consumption of 9,457 MW and output of 8,104 MW. Similar imports were registered in February 2018.

The all-time record consumption was registered during the winter of 2017, of 9,750 MW.

In terms of energy output: coal – 25.9% (2,098 MW), hydrocarbons 0 24.5% (1,977 MW), hydro-energy 20.22% (1,632 MW), nuclear – 17.29% (1,395 MW), wind power – 8.51% (687 MW), photovoltaic – 2.80% (226 MW), biomass – 0.79% (64 MW).

The energy price on the spot market continued to be high on Tuesday, the highest in the region. On Monday the price was by 30-36% higher against the other countries with which the spot market is connected.

On Tuesday, the price was of EUR 78.83/MWh in Romania, EUR 77.13/MWh in Hungary, EUR 59.09/MWH in Slovakia and EUR 56.29.MWH in the Czech Republic.
