Express: Dacia to launch ‘shockingly affordable’ electric car

Dacia is set to launch a ’shockingly affordable’ electric car in the future which could occupy the ‘budget’ space of the EV market, much in the same way the Sandero and Duster do in the petrol and diesel markets, .express.co.uk informs.

Dacia makes the cheapest car and cheapest SUV on the road in the UK with the Sandero and the Duster respectively.

Dacia’s European chairman Jean Christophe Kugler told Auto Express in 2017 that the EV will remain true to the Dacia brand’s ethos.

“We will remain shockingly affordable. We won’t change our brand territory,” he said.

“We will benefit from the Alliance strength and the proven technology – so we can fit that to a Dacia.

“We have all the [electric] technology ready and on the shelf. Being part of the bigger Alliance means when we need a technology, we have it. We don’t have to negotiate.”

Dacia is likely to borrow heavily from electric cars manufactured by parent company Renault which produces EVs such as the Zoe.

To allow Dacia to remain affordable in their creation the technology will unlikely be the cutting edge and the range will probably sit around the 100-mile mark.

Priced cheaply it could be an ideal city car or those who only use it for social or domestic purposes.
