Kronospan bought the ZG Timber factory in Sebeș

Kronospan has purchased the ZG Timber factory in Sebes from Ziegler Group. The acquisition ensures the continuity of operations at the Sebes unit, saving 500 local jobs following the insolvency of Ziegler Holding GmbH at the end of 2024, according to company representatives.
According to Alba 24, the acquisition agreement was signed on March 1, 2025, with the transaction expected to be completed by mid-year, pending regulatory approvals.
Kronospan will ensure the continued operation of the Ziegler plant, preserving jobs, they assure.
“As part of its strategy to improve its product offering, Kronospan will now incorporate sawn wood products into its global portfolio. In addition, sawn wood products will complement the company’s existing production of wood-based panels, including particleboard (PB), medium density fiberboard (MDF) and oriented strand board (OSB) at its Romanian plants in Sebeș and Brașov.
Kronospan also plans to invest in the modernization of the Sebeș sawmill to further improve its production capacities,” Kronospan representatives stated.
Ziegler went bankrupt three months ago. This is the company that owns the former HS Timber factory in Sebeș, formerly known as Holzindustrie Schweighofer.
The HS Timber sawmill (formerly Holzindustrie Schweighofer) from Sebeș was taken over by the Ziegler group, a Bavarian builder of wooden houses, two years ago.
