Constanta Port could have an artificial island

Constanta Port is to be extended and to be modernised, Digi 24 informs. A local Master Plan shows EUR 600 million is needed. A first draft of the plan is on public debate, after which is expected to get the environment go-ahead from The Constanta Environment Protection Agency.

According to the Master Plan the port is to have a new terminal for passengers, following the modernisation of two berths now used for RORO vessels. In Constanta South a special berth for high depth and a terminal for auto transports are to be built.

The most expensive target is the building of an artificial island with new berths for cereals and containers, a EUR 250 million project.

Without the cooperation between the Port of Rotterdam and the Port of Constanta it is not realistic Plan. The Romanian and the Dutch Minister of Transport signed already a Letter of Intention in 2011.
