Dacia eyes to become “a serious rival for Jeep”

The head of Renault Group design, Laurens van den Acker, says that Dacia could be the first “serious” competitor for Jeep in Europe, reports Profit.ro.

The ambitions of the heads of Renault Group and Dacia seem to include a possible positioning of the Dacia brand in competition with the famous American brand Jeep, known for its models with off-road characteristics.

“This is where the outdoor theme came from”, says Laurens van den Acker, vice president of the Renault Group and head of design across all the group’s brands, including Dacia, for the Autocar publication.

In my opinion, there is no serious competitor for Jeep in Europe. Why couldn’t Dacia be something like that? There isn’t a brand connected to the outdoors, which gets you out of the city, which has become, especially since Covid, extremely relevant,” says Acker,

This is also the reason why Dacia decided to participate in the famous Dakar Rally, with an unspecified model, but which has a 99% chance of being the future Duster, which will be launched in 2024.

Dacia is a very good brand positioned for people who love the outdoors. This gives two reasons to buy the car, not just one,” says the head of Renault Group design. Van den Acker also specified that the Bigster, which will be larger than the Duster, will not necessarily be more premium, but will compete with other brands.

Well, two things are for sure. I will have better quality materials and more European design.
