Dacia is continuing its ascent on European markets. Sales, up by almost 40 pc in UK in 2014

Romania’s Dacia was one of the most popular cars in UK, considering that the auto manufacturer ended 2014 with sales up by 39.1 percent, compared with 2013, to 23,860 units, although the local brand recorded a decrease by 26.5 percent in December compared to the same month in 2013, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The market share of Dacia has advanced to 0.96 percent in 2014 from 0.76 percent in 2013, while the new car registrations grew from 17,146 units to 23,862 units, the data also show.

In its turn, Renault, the company which own Dacia, was also big winner, with sales up 44 percent compared to the previous year. It shifted 66,334 motors last year compared to 46,173 in 2013.

The three most popular cars were the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa.

New car sales in the UK have risen for a record 34 consecutive months and that means Britain remains the second largest new car market in Europe, behind Germany, but ahead of France, Italy and Spain.

Industry insiders say for SMMT the boom is largely driven by the availability of cheap finance, with drivers able to put down a small deposit, or no downpayment, and drive away a car for just a few hundred pounds a month.
