EC reimbursed Romania over EUR 200 M, payments for agriculture and rural development

The European Commission officially reimbursed Romania, at the beginning of June, over 200 million euros, money that represents the value of the payments granted in the first quarter of this year to farmers, processors, entrepreneurs and public authorities who made investments in agriculture and rural development.

The European funds were transferred to the accounts of the Romanian state on June 6, 2023 and represent reimbursements from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADR), in the amount of 192.6 million euros, and from the European Union Recovery Instrument (EURI). in the amount of 10.2 million euros, states the Agency of Rural Investments Funding (AFIR).

“Reimbursing the expenses incurred by us reflects their compliance and, above all, the fact that AFIR manages the implementation and payment of European-funded projects in full accordance with the requirements of European regulations. Until this date, the European Commission has reimbursed our country European funds in the amount of 7.85 billion euros for investments in agriculture and the sustainable development of the rural environment financed by AFIR”, said George Chiriţă, the general director of AFIR.

The amounts requested through the declaration of expenses related to the first quarter of this year in the period January 1 – March 31, 2023 and reimbursed by the European Commission are related to the payments made by AFIR for the investment projects financed by the National Rural Development Program 2014 – 2020, as well as compensatory payments for environmental and climate measures delegated to the Payments Agency for Intervention in Agriculture (APIA).
