The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan pays an official visit to Romania on March 12-13. According to a press release of the European Commission, he is to meet Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin and the joint Committees for Agriculture of the Romanian Senate and Chamber of Deputies.
This is Hogan’s first visit to Romania after he took over the agriculture portfolio from Romanian Dacian Ciolos last year.
Irish-born EC official will visit on Thursday two projects financed from European funds, alongside the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu and Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin; specifically, the two objectives are the Suinprod Radic pig farm in the commune of Ratesti, Arges County (northwest of Bucharest) and a mixed fodder plant.
Hogan will participate in the conference “Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion in Romania’s Rural Areas. The Contribution of the National Rural Development Program 2014-2020,” an event organized by the European Commission Representation in Romania.
The Romanian Agriculture Ministry is waiting for the European Commission to approve the National Rural Development Program for the 2014-2020 budget framework. The approval is to be formally granted this June.
