MoonShotX: 13 Romanian companies went to Vienna on their way to scale-up their business

MoonShotX, the first scaling project dedicated to mid-corporate companies in Romania (with turnover between 5 and 50 million euros), developed by Raiffeisen Bank Romania in partnership with InnovX, has reached the internationalization stage.

Between April 10 and 11, 13 of the 22 companies involved in the project attended a series of meetings in Vienna with experts from Raiffeisen Bank International and DLA Piper. During these meetings, they had the opportunity to learn essential information about the target country (taxation, country strategy, key sectors, investment opportunities) and to present their business to potential clients and investors.

“The event in Vienna was very important for the participating companies, as they were able to better understand the country’s strategy and make contact with potential customers and investors. We need to take advantage of this moment and move to the next level of development, showing that we can also have lighthouse companies that are competitive at the international level”, said Cristian Sporiș, Vice-President, Head of Corporate Banking Division and Member of the Board of Directors of Raiffeisen Bank Romania.

This is the first international session of those scheduled this year as part of MoonShotX. The next sessions will take place in the United Kingdom, the United States and the Czech Republic.

Launched in September 2024, MoonShotX brings together 22 Romanian companies out of over 760 analyzed. The companies operate in sectors such as IT, Retail, Construction, Energy, etc.
Between October and December 2024, the project held a week-long bootcamp and 60 personalized mentoring sessions, designed to help companies prepare for scaling. And the results were not long in coming:

  • The companies in the program aim to attract a total of more than 100 million euros for scaling.
  • 16 companies have expressed interest in attracting investments between €2.5m and €10m of investment from the European Investment Fund.
  • 7 companies are in discussions with the UK Department of Investment about potential scaling in the region.

In total, more than 100 mentors from Raiffeisen Bank Romania, RBI, InnovX, DLA Piper, Microsoft, UiPath, EY, the European Commission, BRCC and the embassies of Austria, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and the United States helped companies strengthen their scaling strategies.
