Romania has received over EUR 18.8 million in April, after attending the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the joint trading platform of greenhouse gases related to stationary installations, Ministry of Public Finances (MFP) announced.
Thus, in April there were sold over 3.3 million allowances for stationary installations, worth about EUR 18.871 million. Regarding the certificates for aviation sector, it has not been sold anything.
In January, MFP got over EUR 16.5 million of such certificates, about EUR 18.7 million – in February, and EUR 17.9 million – in March.
According to MFP data, the trading scheme of EU was initially applied for January 1, 2005- December 31, 2007 period and the second phase of the scheme runs from 2008 to 2012.
According to the latest Environment Ministry data, in Romania, more than 13 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions come from the transport sector and 96 percent of them are caused by road transport. In this context, the authorities are focused on stimulating the green car sales.
European leaders have struck a broad climate change pact obliging the EU as a whole to cut greenhouse gases by at least 40 percent by 2030.
