Romania’s foreign exchange reserves down

On 30 June 2024, the National Bank of Romania’s foreign exchange reserves stood at EUR 64,392 million, down from EUR 65,072 million on 31 May 2024.

The following flows were recorded during the month:

  • Inflows of EUR 1,964 million, representing changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves with the NBR, inflows into the Ministry of Finance’s accounts, and other sources.
  • Outflows of EUR 2,644 million, representing changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves with the NBR, interest and principal repayments on foreign currency public debt, payments from the European Commission’s account, and other expenditures.

The gold stock remained steady at 103.6 tonnes. However, due to changes in the international price of gold, its value amounted to EUR 7,249 million.

As of 30 June 2024, Romania’s international reserves (foreign currencies and gold) totaled EUR 71,641 million, compared to EUR 72,269 million on 31 May 2024.

During July 2024, payments due on the foreign currency-denominated public and publicly guaranteed debt amount to approximately EUR 347 million.
