FinMin Citu: Ex-minister Teodorovici knew the deficit will mount to 4pc since April, he lied in Parliament

The incumbent minister of Finance, Liberal Florin Citu has accused in a press conference on Monday that his predecessor, Social Democrat Eugen Teodorovici had known since April that the budget deficit might exceed 4 percent out of GDP. Citu released an internal memo of the Finance Ministry.

Minister Citu revealed documents showing that the former PM Viorica Dancila and ex-FinMin Eugen Teodorovici had known since April that the deficit might exceed 4 pc of GDP, considering the revenues to the budget could not reach the expected level.

“In 2019, the PSD Government knew from the very beginning that without additional measures, the deficit could reach 4 pc by the end of the year, the government hid this information and lied in Parliament”, minister Citu stated.

“The PSD Gov’t knew about that, they took no measures, although they were aware the economy will end up like this, it has all been deliberate, these people destroyed the economy only for their personal interest. They had enough time since April to take precautionary measures. They lied when they came up with the budget before the Parliament”, Citu said, announcing he will send all documents to the Court of Accounts.
