The Ford plant in Romania, owned by the Ford Otosan association in Turkey, recorded a production volume of 250,000 cars, with the help of the three manufactured models, the Puma and the two Couriers, which is a first in our country, Profit.ro reports.
Ford Otosan produced 20,441 vehicles in Craiova in the last month of last year, the factory managing to maintain the production pace at over 20,000 units and marking a 60% increase compared to the previous year, but without reaching the performances of March, July or October, when 25,000 units were exceeded.
13,563 Puma cars and 6,878 Transit and Tourneo Courier cars were assembled in December. The factory is in the process of starting the production of the electric versions of the three cars, but the start of series production is scheduled to take place in January.
As estimated by Profit.ro, the total volume of vehicle production in Craiova in 2024 was 250,481 cars, both cars and LCVs. Of these, the Puma SUV amounted to 166,242 units, while the Courier with both body versions totaled 84,239 copies.
The increase in production volume in Craiova was approximately 60,000 vehicles, compared to the result in 2023, respectively a percentage increase of 31%. The best month of 2024 was October, with a historic volume of 27,627 vehicles assembled, of which almost 18,000 were Puma and 9,600 were Courier.
Ford Otosan introduced the two commercial vehicles Transit and Tourneo Courier onto the production lines in 2024, which replaced the EcoSport model, which was discontinued in 2023. The share of the two LCVs was approximately 30% in 2024.
Romania produced 550-570 thousand vehicles in 2024, with the help of the two plants, Dacia and Ford, but for now the official result is not known, because Dacia has not publicly communicated the figures for December.
Even if it will not exceed the threshold of 600,000 vehicles, Romania will register a record volume of cars produced in the two plants. Our country exceeded 500,000 vehicles produced for the first time in 2022, and a year later the volume rose to 513,000 vehicles.
