Germany, still Romania’s main trading partner in 2015

Germany remains, for 2015 too, Romania’s No. 1 trading partner, German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) announced in a press release in Tuesday, quoting the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data.

Imports from Germany amounted to EUR 12.5 billion, up by 11.3 percent than in 2014, while exports reached to EUR 10.8 billion, up by 6.8 percent yoy. The trade volume between the two countries totaled EUR 23.3 billion (+ 9.3 percent). The most important product groups in the trade between Romania and Germany are machinery and mechanical appliances, transport means and materials, base metals.

Romania’s commercial exchanges totaled EUR 117.5 billion last year, up 1.9 percent compared to 2014.

“For 2016, we expect also a positive development of both the Romanian-German economic ties and German investments in Romania. AHK Romania, as the official representative of the German economy in Romania, contributes to the improvement of business and investment conditions in Romania. One of our major concerns is and remains the development of vocational education system as a dual model, aimed at ensuring qualified staff in Romania,” the quoted document reads.

Starting 2007, Germany becomes one of Romania’s most important trading partner. The trade volume between the two countries amounted to over EUR 21 billion in 2014. Around 8,000 German-owned companies are active in Romania, over 40 percent being in manufacturing. The automotive sector is preferred by German investors, the development and positive history of Dacia attracting numerous companies from car parts segment.

The German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in September 2002 and is the official representative of the German economy in Romania. With its almost 530 members it is the largest bilateral economic association in Romania. AHK Romania activity focuses on three main pillars: platform for members, consulting services and interest representation.
