Gov’t approves draft ordinance granting cheaper diesel fuel for agriculture

The government approved in its last meeting on Monday two draft emergency ordinances, their number amounting to 95 in 2014, as compared to 117 issued in 2013. One of them refers reduce the excise for diesel fuel for agriculture.

Thus the farmers are to pay EUR 21 per ton as excise for diesel fuel, the difference up to the real level of the excise is to be subsidized according to the draft ordinance. Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin announced the executive’s decision. “By this government ordinance we intend to set up the legal framework for 2015-2020 to grant the subsidy for the farmers in order to help them cut the production costs. According to the European rules, each year the government is to issue a decision by which it sets the amounts dedicated for the next year,” the minister said. Constantin added the amount for 2015 is of RON 700 million.

“As it happens every year, the demand will be higher, we hope to add the needed amounts by budgetary rectification so that all farmers should get the subsidies,” Constantin also said. He added that the increased excise for this year had not affected the farmers. For 2014 during Q1 the subsidies for agriculture amounted to about RON 1.4 per litre, after the excise increase the subsidies went up to RON 1.79.
