Haier Tech has announced its intention to reorganize production activities and temporarily resize the workforce at its refrigerator factory in Ariceștii Rahtivani, Prahova County. The reason given: “the contraction of the market and the decrease in demand in all categories – which persists, a consequence of the post-pandemic effect and the recent crisis in Europe and globally”, Prahovean Observatory newspaper reported. Amid this, the company announced its intention to lay off 40% of its staff. Currently, the factory has 988 employees, and 400 will lose their jobs.
Haier Tech has already started consultations with employee representatives to negotiate the conditions under which the collective layoffs will take place. The factory became operational at the end of 2021, following an investment of over 70 million euros. The factory is equipped with two production lines, currently has over 800 employees who are supported by state-of-the-art robots and machinery. Haier Tech will have a production capacity of over one million refrigerators per year to serve both the local and international markets, thus representing Haier’s largest export refrigeration center in Europe.
