In 2016, the area of forests was about the same as in the previous year, statistics say

In 2016, the area of forests was approximately at the same level as in the previous year, the National Statistics Institute officials reported in a press release on Wednesday. According to the document the volume of wood mass harvested in 2016 decreased by 5.2% as compared to 2015. The national forestry fund on December 31, 2016 had registered an increase of about 0.1%. The area of forests represents 97.6% of the national forestry fund. Unfortunately, the regenerated surface decreased by 1.0%. Total areas with forests 6,558.957 hectares.

The forestry fund by regions: centre – 19.3%, north-east – 18.2%, west – 15.2%, south-west Oltenia – 12.4%, south-Muntenia – 10%, south-east – 8.4% and Bucharest-Ilfov – 0.4%.

Harvested wood mass: north-east – 23.3%, centre – 23.2%, north-west – 12.1%, west – 12.1%, south-Muntenia – 9.9%, south-west Oltenia – 7.8%, south-east – 7.2% and Bucharest-Ilfov – 0.4%.

Reforestations: north-west – 23.1%, centre 18.1%, north-west – 13.3%, west – 11.8%, south Muntenia – 10.3%, south-west Oltenia – 0.2% and Bucharest-Ilfov – 0.3%.
