INDAGRA kicks off today. Romania’s agriculture, on the right track

INDAGRA, the international trade fair of equipment and products in agriculture, horticulture, viticulture and animal husbandry, opened its gates today in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis who noted that this event represents a special chance to promote domestic products.

“Today, INDAGRA brings together exhibitors from 25 countries and a praiseworthy indication is that this year international participation accounts for 30 percent, which means cutting edge technology, but also ingenious solutions meant to bring outstanding performance in agriculture. To Romania, this event represents a special chance to promote domestic products,” said Iohannis.

He also stressed that it’s time the agriculture to become Romania’s real priority through political will.

“The agriculture is not only a part of the economy, like any other, but is itself an economy and should be treated as a whole, as I said, with the consciousness of well-done job,” Iohannis stated, adding that INDAGRA has become a landmark in agricultural cooperation not just for farmers, but for experts, suppliers and customers as well.

The head of the state mentioned that each year INDAGRA counts major domestic and foreign companies among its exhibitors, which proves the immense potential of Romanian agriculture.

In turn, Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu pointed out that the Romanian agriculture has progressed so much in recent years due to significant funding following country’s joining to the European Union, as well as to national budget effort.

According to him, Romania has benefited during 2007 – 2013 period of over EUR 14.5 billion from the EU, and the funding exceeds EUR 20 billion for 2014-2020.

Irimescu noted that this year’s INDAGRA edition brings together leading manufacturers of agrifood products, the latest technology, as well as livestock breeders who have brought cutting-edge genetics.

Agriculture Minister also said that over EUR 1 billion will be transferred to farmers’ accounts by end-November they, which represents a record, three times higher than was ever paid as an advance in Romania.

INDAGRA – is the biggest and important agricultural event in Romania, organized by ROMEXPO in partnership with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Romania, under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development – runs from November 2 to 6.
