Amid celebrations of France’s National day (July 14), a recent analysis shows that, since Romania has joined the European Union, France has ranked among top five largest foreign investors in our country.
At the same time, the survey points that the French companies’ investments in Romania has increased by roughly 26 percent in the past 10 years (from 2007 to 2017), mounting to EUR 4.7 billion.
The turnover of the French companies that have had direct investments in Romania reached around EUR 14,4 billion in 2017. Among those 2,800 French-owned companies in our country, almost 1,900 of them have a direct French majority share (over 50pc).
Being considered a strategic investor in Romania, France has mainly got involved in such sectors of the local market as automotive industry, retail and financial services.
French investments in the local processing industry, depending on the turnover, counts on 56% of the total, standing at EUR 8 billion. Retail counts for 29% of the total, standing at EUR 4.1 bln, while financial services have taken a share of 4.4%, with an estimated turnover of almost EUR 630 million.
The top French investors in Romania: Automobile Dacia ( turnover of EUR 5.3 billion), Carrefour Romania (EUR 1.6 bln) and Renault Commercial Roumanie SRL (EUR 877 million).
