IT market in Romania has dropped by over 10 percent in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, to EUR 98 million, GfK Temax report reads on Thursday.

“The demand for tablets has continued to decline. After the end of the year with a good performance, both desktops and laptops have lost ground. On the other hand, ink cartridges and MFDs followed a positive trend,” the quoted document reveals.

Telecom sector has had a very positive development in Q1 2016 compared to the same period in 2015 mainly due to medium price smartphones.

Also the photo market in Romania decreased by 8 percent in Q1 2016 compared to the same period last year. Compact cameras have continued to decline, while sales of D-SLRs have increased.

According to GfK report, in the period under consideration, the electronics have increased by almost 13 percent year-on-year, the TV market being the main growth engine.

The first quarter of 2016, the report says, has proved to be very good for large appliances. This sector grew by almost 26 percent compared to Q1 2015 to a value of EUR 102 million.
