Japan’s Allied Telesis invests EUR 100,000 in IoT Excellence Center in Bucharest

Japan-based Allied Telesis, a leading provider of networking hardware and software products, has signed an investment of EUR 100,000 in the IoT Excellence Center in Bucharest, and will provide support for Smart Communities projects in Europe and the Middle East, zf.ro informs.

Allied Telesis has chosen Europe and especially Romania to test its dedicated Smart City platform amid the consistent and continuous development of this market area.

“By 2020, the number of IoT devices will exceed EUR 50 billion.” This number of devices represents a real challenge for efficient infrastructure management. Without a certain level of management automation, the new IT world we are building will become impossible to be controlled by humans. Our intelligent technologies such as the AMF (Autonomous Management Framework) and SDN (Software Defined Network) allow us to leverage our networking experience, simplify customer work environment and provide security, which is very important for organizations looking at IoT space,” Vice President for International Sales at Allied Telesis, Jakub Duch, stated.

Allied Telesis already implements this platform in Smart Physical Security and Smart Manufacturing projects in the US and tests it in smart city, smart water and smart agriculture apps in Europe and Asia.

During this period, together with the technology partners from Swedish Axis, one of the largest players on the video surveillance market, and with the help of Silva Sistems, a “proof-of-concept” in Tulcea was successfully completed, where combined environmental and traffic data were made available to local authorities.

“At this point, the IoT solutions market is extremely diverse, both in terms of the offered platforms and the other constituent elements (sensors, data processing apps and data storage). (…) I don’t think we will be seeing a significant reduction in the number of IoT platform providers in the years to come, meaning to consolidate the market to the presence of only 2-3 very large suppliers. We will see, however, an increase of major PaaS vendors’ roles as they attract users who develop, for their own use or for their customers, new IoT solutions or extensions of the existing ones, following the already classic hybrid cloud services,” Calin Poenaru, Country Manager Allied Telesis, said.
