Giurgiu County and Bulgarian district Ruse filed eight joint projects within INTERREG program V-A Romania-Bulgaria, with a total value of over EUR 30 million. According to local giurgiuveanul.ro, one of these cross-border projects includes the construction of a new ’Friendship’ bridge linking the two countries.
“The Bulgarian Government has already ordered a feasibility study for a highway project Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo to reach the motorway to Sofia, and this team has come to the conclusion that it would be very good if the next bridge between the two countries would link also Giurgiu and Ruse. As far as I am concerned, I will ask for the support of our MPs and all the personalities and bodies this project depends on, to make it to materialize and not to remain at a draft stage,” Ruse District Prefect, Stefko Burdjiev, said attending a press conference in Giurgiu.
In his turn, Vasile Mustatea, Giurgiu County Council President, the new project will help strengthen relations between Romania and Bulgaria and to create new jobs.
“I will sent a letter to the Transport Minister, next week, to get his support for this project and to ask for an audience to have a broader discussion on this topic,” Mustatea said.
