Negative record for Romania: no tractor exported in H1

Romania has not exported any tractor in the first six months of this year, while the production of such vehicles is declining and big factories such as Tractorul Brasov were closed after the privatization failed, digi24.ro informs.

According to the Ministry of Economy data, Romania exported tractors of over EUR 30 million.

At the same time, as regards imports, their value is close to EUR 380 million during January – June 2016 period, up by 38 percent compared to the same period in 2015. Last year, Romania exported 27,411 tons of tractors worth over EUR 64.4 million.

In 1989, Brasov County was the most heavily industrialized, after Bucharest. Flagship communist companies like “Tractorul”, with 23,000 employees in 1989, “Steagul Rosu”, with 22,000 employees, “Rulmentul”, with over 10,000 employees, were shut down in 2007 after the state tried their privatization.

Just ‘Tractorul Brasov U650’ company, the former Tractorul UTB S.A. factory, which went bankrupt in 2007, has relaunched its production at Baicoi, PrahovaCounty, under foreign patronage.

It’s about the Egyptian businessman Atef el Said el Kalaini, former partner of the famous plant in the communist period, who acquired the license of U650 model which he produced and sold in the last 5 years exclusively on the Egyptian market.

Last year, Tractorul Brasov U650 delivered ‘Made in Romania’ tractors to the Arab State army.
